11FINES TARIFF
- 5p per item per day
- 50p for overnight loans
- If you want to avoid fines return loan items on
time. You can renew them by bringing your
student card to the counter or by telephoning the
Learning Centre on 789426
12Arrangement of Resources
- Books, videos and journals are arranged in
SUBJECT order - Each subject is assigned a number
- E.g. SPORT 796.334
- This number is on the spine of the book or video
and on the Library Catalogue record - Numbers run from 000 to 999
13Use the signposts
- To find your subject on the shelf -
- Shelf Headings are provided to guide you
- Classification Guides are provided on the ends of
shelving bays - A catalogue is available for your use
14Library Catalogue
- The Library Catalogue is a database of resources
held by all the Learning Centres at Wakefield
College. - It can be found on the Student Intranet and the
College web page (www.wakcoll.ac.uk) .
15Subject Guides
- These booklets are available on a stand in the
Learning Centre and on the Student Intranet. - They contain details of journals, videos and
books available in the LC as well as internet
sites and other useful course information - There should be one specifically related to your
course
16Requests
from other sites
- You can request resources that are available in
the Wakefield and/or Thornes Park Learning
Centres and we will arrange for them to be sent
to Whitwood within two/three days
for books out on loan
You can request resources that are currently out
on loan and we will inform you when it becomes
available This is a free service

18The Student Intranet
- As an enrolled student at Wakefield College,
- you will have free access to the Internet and the
Student Intranet. - you will also have your own student e-mail
account and access to student resources and
learning materials. - Interactive features such as news and discussion
forums are also accessible through the INTRANET
19Printing from the Computers
All computers in the Learning Centre are
networked to a laser printer located on the
counter. Printing costs 3p per A4 sheet. Before
printing you must credit your print account by
producing your student card at the Learning
Centre counter minimum 30p Use the normal
print routine from the software package you are
working in. When prompted accept the print costs
displayed.
20Learning Centre Computers
- We expect you to use the Learning Centre
computers for work relating to your course only - The internet is for use as a research tool
- Playing games is forbidden. Anyone doing so may
face disciplinary action. - Access to web sites is constantly monitored.
- Please be aware that by using PCs
inappropriately you may be preventing someone
with genuine educational needs from using them
Please maintain a quiet working environment

- DO NOT USE THE AREA AS A SOCIAL MEETING PLACE
- PLEASE MAINTAIN A QUIET WORKING ENVIRONMENT

- Please be aware that-
- a CCTV system operates in the Learning Centre
- all books are tagged and a security alarm system
is in operation
