3Using the College Network Computer
SystemYour College Network AccountAll your
College work should be saved to your College
Network AccountYour College e-Mail AccountYou
are automatically given an e-mail account when
you register with the CollegeInternet UseYou
will be able to have Internet access when your
are registered with the College.This is subject
to The College Users Network Agreement which you
will have signed during your Induction.Intranet
UseThis is the Colleges own Web Site. Here you
can access your e-mails, get news about the
College Information put onto the Site by Your
Tutors for your course this may include
handouts and Assignments.
4Your College Network AccountFrom Start click on
My ComputerThis will bring up the screen you can
see (right).This shows the different Drives
available to your computer.This includes the A
Drive for your floppy discs your own Network
account (F) Drive. This is shown as your
College Number.There is enough space to save
your work for the whole year.When saving any of
your College workit is best to save it here and
only use the A (floppy) Drive if you have to do
some work at home.You can access your College
account from any computer in the College
5Opening and Saving Word files From the Start Menu
click on the Word Icon or Click on Start. Go to
All Programs and Click on Microsoft Office
Word This starts you in a new document. If you
want to save the work you are about to do Save
now to give your work a name. Click on File,
then Save As To save your document to your
College Account at the side of My
Documents Click on the arrow. A drop down Menu
will appear Click on your College No. In File
name re-name your file
6- Using your College e-Mail Account
- From the general computer icons
- click on College Intranet
- Then My Outlook.
- This will bring up your college
- e-mail site.
- Your College e-mail can be used
- as a general e-mail account.
- Your account address being your
- College Number e.g.
- 20055459_at_hughbaird.ac.uk
7Using your College e-Mail Account
Your name and College number is shown on your
account You can use your account the same as any
e-mailing system. One advantage is an address
book of College e-mail addresses. When you click
onto New A new box will appear for you to write
your message in. The To box has another useful
purpose, if you click onto it, a drop-down box
will appear with a list from which you can locate
any person registered in the College

of the Library Learning Centres Website You
should explore each page carefully in order to
