Anatomy and Physiology . . ?
  • Success in shooting depends upon the ability of
the performer to adopt and maintain appropriate
positions for to execution of the shooting
    skills.
  • These require sufficient strength, flexibility
and endurance to meet the physical demands.
  • It is thus essential to understand the anatomical
and physiological requirements of shooting and
the most effective methods for developing these.

4
Anatomy Key issues
  • Which joints and movements are limiting factors
    in adopting correct shooting postures?
  • Which muscle actions are involved in maintaining
and controlling posture and movement in shooting?
  • Which of the above are structural and which
functional can they be changed through training
    ?
  • What the medical team talking about ?

5
Anatomy of the spine
  • Made up from 33 bones and 24 joints
  • 4 main regions
  • Different movement possible in each
  • All postures and positions a complex interaction
    of different movements.

6
  • 7 Cervical
  • 12 Thoracic
  • 5 Lumbar
  • 5 Sacrum
  • 4 Coccyx

7
Vertebral Column
8
Spinal Movements
  • Flexion, extension, hyperextension
  • Free in all three regions
  • Lateral flexion
  • Limited in thoracic region
  • Rotation
  • Limited in lumbar region

Physiological Demands of Shooting
  • Strength
  • Speed
  • Stamina / Endurance
  • Fitness to shoot what is it ?

26
Physiological demands of shooting
  • ????????????

27
Endurance Aerobic training
  • At least twice a week
  • Target Heart Rate 60-70 Maximum
  • Affects all parts of cardio-vascular system
  • Heart (lower resting and exercise HR)
  • Better oxygen transport in blood
  • Better oxygen uptake in muscles

28
Fuel to shoot
  • Require a healthy balance and mixed diet
  • CHO 45
  • Fat - 40
  • Protein 15

29
Competition Diet
  • Maintain normal diet
  • Avoid CHO feeding in hour before competition
  • Maintain fluid intake
  • Water
  • CHO / Electrolyte drinks
  • Eat regularly throughout competition
