Arriving
  • Turn on the warning and main light
  • Turn on the fan
  • Lock the door
  • Stick your music on

  • Prepare your chemicals
  • Collect equipment

  • Find film end
  • Cut film end
  • Spool film

Fill Canister
  • Place spool on column
  • Place spool in container
  • Close lid tightly

  • Find the timer
  • Know chemical times
  • You can find these on the bottles.
  • Add chemicals
  • Developing is very time dependent,
  • Stopping and fixing are less time-vital.
  • Try to keep to the timings!
  • Agitate

Wash and Dry
  • Wash the film
  • Fill and empty the container 3 or four times.
    Your dont need to keep the lid on once you have
    fixed the film
  • Dry the film
  • Cut the film up and store it.
  • Thats it! Your films done!

  • Open film canister and remove end of film
  • Spool film onto film spool
  • Put everything into the tank - light on
  • Add chemicals for correct times - agitate
  • Wash then dry the negatives

Printing
  • Arrange Chemicals
  • Contact Print
  • Use a contact print easel to see all of your
    negatives as positives
  • Select your negative and place it in the enlarger

Safety light on
  • Use a print easel
  • Compose and focus the print
  • Change the aperture
  • Put your paper in

Expose
  • Expose paper for 5 seconds
  • Cover a small section
  • Repeat, exposing the uncovered area until whole
    sheet exposed

Process
  • Place the print in the DEVeloper for 1 minute
  • Move the print into the STOP for 30 seconds then
    to the FIX for 60
  • Wash the print for 2 minutes.
  • Examine under white light

Dry the print
  • Once the print is fixed it can be exposed to
    white light.
  • You can then dry the print.
  • Squeegy the print to remove the surface water.
  • Then hang it up until its visibly dry or feed it
    to the dryer.

Contrast
  • A picture with too much or too little contrast
    can be remedied by changing the contrast grade.
  • Adding magenta will increase the contrast,
    increasing the yellow will decrease the contrast.

Dodging and Burning
  • If your print has sections that are either
    brighter or darker than you wish, you can burn or
    dodge them.
  • Burning is where you cover all but the lighter
    part of the photograph and allow more light onto
    that part of the print.
  • Dodging is the opposite, this is where you cover
    only a dark part on the print allowing less light
    to hit this part of the print and making it
    lighter.
