About the Workshop Explore the historical and
modern aspects of Great Lakes shipping at
Whitefish Point. This workshop is a unique
opportunity to experience the rich history of
Great Lakes shipping. The goal of the workshop is
the development of a pre/post- field trip
activity guide for K-12 Students to Whitefish
Point. Each workshop participant will write one
lesson that will become part of an activity guide
for Whitefish Point Lighthouse Shipwreck Museum
for teachers and youth group leaders to use
before or after visiting Whitefish Point and the
Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum. The workshop begins
at 9 am Monday, and ends at 3 pm, Tuesday, and
will include tours of Whitefish Point and an
optional visit to Michigans oldest cranberry
farm.
Accommodations Participants will spend two nights
(Sunday and Monday) in the Whitefish Pt.
Lighthouse crew quarters (http//www.shipwreckmuse
um.com/). Participants will stay in comfortable
rooms (singles, doubles triples) with a shared
bath.
Credit One semester graduate credit from Michigan
Technological University is included in the
workshop cost.

Cost Stipend The workshop registration fee is
125 and includes two nights lodging on Sunday
and Monday nights, meals from Monday breakfast
through Tuesday lunch, one credit from Michigan
Technological University, plus classroom teaching
materials. Participants will receive a 100
stipend once their lesson is published following
the workshop.
