What is the SCQF?

• The SCQF brings together all the major national
  qualifications of Scotland into a single
  framework.

What does the SCQF do?

• Supports lifelong learning
• Helps people understand and compare Scottish
  qualifications
• Helps learners to make more informed choices
• Supports movement/progression between
  qualifications using credit transfer

How does the SCQF work?

• It uses a common language of SCQF level and SCQF
  credit points.

• The level shows how demanding or difficult the
  qualification is.
• Credit points show how big the qualification
  is. One SCQF credit point is an average of 10
  hours of learning.
• The Framework has 12 levels and looks like this

  total of 96 SCQF points at SCQF level 7.

• Higher National Certificates (HNC) will be
  designed to be at SCQF level 7 and will comprise
  96 SCQF credit points
• HNCs should incorporate at least 48 SCQF credit
  points at SCQF level 7
• Higher National Diplomas (HND) will be designed
  to be at SCQF level 8 and will comprise 240 SCQF
  credit points
• HNDs should incorporate at least 64 SCQF credit
  points at SCQF level 8
• All HNCs will be the same size, as will all HNDs

• Scottish Vocational Qualifications are notionally
  placed in the Framework at levels

• understand qualifications you are not familiar
  with
• understand the different pathways and connections
  between different qualifications
• help your learners to plan their learning
• help your learners understand the value of their
  credit and what they can use it for
