- Your Instructor will inform you of remediation
established for your Fall and Y-Term courses. - Discuss any concerns you have for the remediation
offered with your instructor.

5Before altering your course load
- After attending your first class
- Review the graded feedback for your fall courses.
You should have 15 graded feedback prior to the
course drop deadline. - b) With the graded feedback and the remediation
expectations set, you should have enough
information to determine whether or not you can
successfully complete the course and attain the
necessary grade to meet the academic standards
for your program.
6Before dropping a course please consider
- is the course a prerequisite for a winter term
course? - are you in good academic standing?
- have you applied to graduate?
- are you receiving financial assistance
(OSAP)? - do you have a renewable scholarship?
- are you living in residence?
- are you playing inter-university sports?
7If dropping a prerequisite course
- Dropping a fall term course that is a
prerequisite for a winter term course - drop the winter term course
- try adding the prerequisite course for the
winter - add a course for the winter term for which you
have the prerequisite

9Have you applied to graduate?
- Will dropping a course affect your eligibility to
- graduate?
- a) Do you require the course to meet the number
of credits required to graduate with the degree? - 120 credits Honours
- 90 credits Bachelor
- Did you need the course as a means to raise your
grade point average for graduation?
10Financial Assistance
- Dropping courses has financial implications.
- OSAP
- to be eligible for OSAP assistance students must
maintain a minimum 9 credit course load each
term. - Reducing your course load could result in a
reassessment of your OSAP funding.
11Renewable Scholarship
- Dropping a course may affect your renewable
scholarship. - Scholarship funds are based on a 100 course
load of 30 credits for the Fall/Winter session. - Less than 30 credits your scholarship may be
adjusted. - Less than 24 credits may affect your eligibility
for next year. - Contact Student Financial Services prior to
dropping courses.
12Implications of a poor grade
- Long term implications of not dropping a course
and receiving a poor grade. - After the drop deadline has passed, all grades
for registered courses will be reported on your
transcript. - A poor grade may affect your eligibility to
proceed or continue in a professional program
such as BAS, BHRM or BSW. - A poor grade may affect your eligibility for
- Education Program
- Law School
- Graduate Program
13If you live in residence
- Students living in residence must
- Be in good academic standing (minimum 4.0
cumulative grade point average). - Must maintain 24 credits for the Fall/Winter
session.
14If you play Inter-university Sports
- Continuing student athletes
- Must complete a minimum of 18 credits prior to
September 1. - Must be in good academic standing
- Must be registered in 9 credits in the term in
which they are competing. - Before dropping a course talk to your coach.

18ACADEMIC REGULATIONS AND ACCOMMODATIONSACADEMIC
REGULATIONS
- Course Instructors have been asked to discuss
with students changes and options on course
assignments on the first day classes resume. - Your Course Instructor may make changes to the
number, kind and weight of assignments. Whenever
possible, students can choose between the
modified assignments or the original course
assignments and weighting. - In non-required courses, it is sometimes possible
to have a Pass/Fail if you so choose. - Due dates that fell prior to the beginning of the
strike (November 6, 2008) remain in effect. - There will be a cushion period between
resumption of classes and any tests or submission
of assignments.
19ACCOMODATIONSGENERAL
- Deferred standing agreements these are
agreements between the student and the course
instructor and may still be possible for students
in certain situations. - Provision may be possible for alternative
scheduling of presentations, performances,
practica or the equivalent (i.e., outside of
schedules class meets) so that collaborative
classroom or studio work can meet at a time
convenient for course directors and students
(subject to the availability of appropriate
space.)
20ACCOMMODATIONSPERSONS WITH DISABILITIES
- MUST be considered on an individual basis.
- Some possible accommodations include more time
to complete assignments beyond revised due dates
easier access to TAs or Course Instructors
deferred standing agreements. - If note takers are not available, request Course
Instructors to provide material in an alternative
way. - Flexibility in exam rescheduling if extra time
has been required to complete course requirements.

22SESSIONAL DATESTHE WINTER TERM
- Winter begins immediately following the fall term
examination schedule - Reading Week, February 16-20, is cancelled
- There will be 55 days of instruction and weekend
classes will meet in accordance with new
sessional dates - The winter examination schedule will be 12 days
23GRADE REPORTS
- There will be a delay in processing final grades
for York students and the Registrars Office has
notified other post-secondary institutions in
Canada regarding this delay. - If applying to an international post-secondary
institution, contact Student Client Services for
a letter request form the Registrars Office
that will explain the delay.

- Student Evaluation of a Course and a Course
Director will be optional and at the discretion
of the Course Instructor.

- What is a Petition?
- A petition is a formal request for the waiver of
a Faculty's regulation or deadline. - What is Deferred Standing?
- Deferred Standing may be granted to undergraduate
students who are unable to write their final
examination at the scheduled time, or to submit
their outstanding course work on the last day of
classes. - What is Late Withdrawal?
- A petition to drop a course subsequent to the
published deadline date.
27Student Academic Petitions Submitting a Petition
- Students must submit a completed petition
package to their home Faculty - To initiate a petition, students must submit the
following forms/information - A completed copy of the Academic Petition Form
- A Personal Letter The petition letter must be
organized under the following two headings - Regulation(s) being petitioned
- Circumstances or grounds for the petition
- Relevant supporting documentation, which may
include - Student Course Performance Summary
- Attending Physician's Statement
- Statement by a Counsellor from the Counselling
Disability Services - Students are required to submit original
documentation - The petitions process is confidential and
anonymous. Information and documentation
submitted in relation to a petition is restricted
to office staff and Committee members involved in
the decision-making process.
