Guidelines

• You will work with a partner for this assignment
• You will edit your partners paper using each
  slide as a guide
• Remember to provide a significant amount of
  feedback because you will want the same in return!

Inverted Pyramid

• Identify the Big 6 in your partners article
• These should be CLEARLY identifiable
• These should appear at the TOP of the story
• If they are not identifiable or do not appear at
  the top of the article, make suggestions for
  improvement

Lead-in

• Label the who and what in the lead-in (first
  sentence or two)
• If the who and what are not clearly
  identifiable, make a suggestion for improvement
• Make sure the lead-in is its own paragraph
• Count how many words are in the lead-in there
  should be under 30 words
• If there are more than 30 words, which words can
  the writer cut out?
• The lead-in should follow S-V-O construction,
  label each part of the sentence
• Is the lead-in engaging? Explain to the writer
  whether or not you would want to continue reading
  the story based on the effectiveness of the
  lead-in?
• The lead-in should connect DIRECTLY to the
  headline and subhead
• The lead-in should be relevant to Harrison

Caption Writing

• Does the writer have 2 pictures to accompany
  his/her article?
• Does the student use 2 different caption formats
  for his/her pictures?
• Does the student use at least 1 expanded caption?
• Does the expanded caption follow the rules? If
  not, make suggestions for improvement.

AP Style and Format

• Does the student have the proper AP style heading
  on each page of the article?
• Does the student include a headline and subhead
  that are relevant to Harrison?
• Does the student meet the page and a half limit?
• Does the student make an attempt to use AP Style
  and formatting rules? (see packet)

Miscellaneous

• Does the student incorporate at least 3 direct
  quotations from interviews in his/her article?
• If not, where would be an appropriate place to
  include a direct quote?
• Is the students article relevant to Harrison?
  Explain why or why not.
• Remember the goal of the assignment is to write
  as if you are a reporter for Harrisons
  Tradition.
• Is this article newsworthy? Explain why or why
  not.
• Does this read like a news article or a lit.
  essay? Explain.
