18Practical Crime Prevention Advice
- Lock away valuables and equipment
- Lock doors, cupboards, desks when an area/office
is vacated or left unattended for any length of
time. - If you have a locker, use it.
- Regularly check that all windows and door locks
are in working order. - Never put yourself at risk - call for assistance.
- Make sure patient records and all other sensitive
information are kept secure. - Remember certain equipment can be very attractive
to thieves, e.g. mobile phones, lap tops etc. -

- If your car has an alarm, use it.
- If you have a steering wheel lock or other
security device - use it. - When driving be aware of what is happening around
you especially at traffic lights and road
junctions and keep your doors locked. - Try to recognise ploys to stop your car, dont
stop, call the police -
Never leave any items on view in your car. Lock
them in the boot. Whenever practical, always
park in such a way as to drive away easily. Try
to park in a well lit, busy area.
