To become a teacher you must
  • a. Follow requirements of your degree plan
  • b. Apply for Teacher Education Program (TED)
  • i. Eng 1311, 1312 and Comm 1301 with a C or
    better
  • ii. Math 1319/1320 or higher with a C or
    better
  • iii. THEA (or TASP) passing scores on all
  • three sections
  • a. Writing 220 (you may be exempt)
  • b. Math 230 (you may be exempt)
  • c. Reading 250
  • iv. Complete 60 hours with UTEP GPA of 2.5 or
    better
  • v. File your official degree plan (see your
    Education advisor)
  • c. Complete required Education Courses
    SPED, BED, ECED, RED, MSED, TED
  • Complete your field work (internship semesters)
    in schools
  • Fulfill certification requirements
  • NOTE You must be admitted to Teacher Ed to
    take these courses.

Field Based Studies
After you are Admitted to TED, you will enroll in
Internship Semesters. The field work will help
you to develop an understanding of the knowledge,
values, and experiential bases necessary to
become an effective teacher
Internship Semester I EC-4 and 4-8 Students
are assigned to schools for 3 half-days. Students
are also taking courses.
Internship II EC-4 and 4-8 Students are
normally assigned to the same school where they
take responsibility for whole class instruction.
Students are assigned for 3 full days while
taking courses.
NOTE Secondary and All-Levels students
participate in an Internship Semester where they
are assigned to a school for 4.5 days and take an
additional education course.

To answer questions you may have. To keep track
of progress in your degree plan and make sure you
are taking your required courses. To make sure
youve met your requirements for Teacher
Education. For career advising. To apply for
Admission to Teacher Education and Internship
Semesters To make sure you graduate on
time. NOTE Students with 0 45 hours,
Mandatory Advising with Academic Advising
Center.

Education Student Organizations
Kappa Delta Pi An International Society in
Education that is dedicated to scholarship and
excellence in education.  The society is a
community of scholars dedicated to worthy ideals
for outstanding students. Contact

BESO (Bilingual Education Student Organization)
is organized for charitable, educational purposes
and is open to all persons interested in
advancing the cause of bilingual-bicultural
education. GPA requirements 2.5 Dues. 20 yearly

Texas State Teachers Association, UTEP Student
Chapter, is a new student organization in our
college. Membership is open to any UTEP
undergraduate student who is interested in
education. The Goal is to promote interest in
education and to cooperate in improving the
profession and the community. Monthly meetings
focus on educational issues such as PPR standards
and tips for teaching. For more information

Paying for School
FINANCIAL AID -Grants/Loans/Work Study Will pay
for 170 hours total and you cannot continue to
receive funds after that unless you
appeal Perkins Loan is need-based (forgiven if
you teach at a low-income school) Stafford
Loans Subsidized (no interest) if you teach
Math, Science or SPED for 5 years the loan will
be forgiven up to 17, 500 Unsubsidized
(interest) same as above
