17Tardy and Early Checkout Procedure
Because of increased tardiness district wide, we
are now instituting a new procedure. Students
arriving to school after 800 AM should report to
the office to receive a tardy slip. Due to
state reporting requirements we document all
reasons for tardy and arrival times of students.
An excused tardy or early checkout
includes medical or dental appointments with
notice from the doctor. An unexcused tardy or
early checkout is any other reason for being late
or leaving early. The principal will have the
discretion to excuse a tardy or early checkout
for a family emergency. Early checkout more than
thirty minutes prior to the end of the school day
or late arrival past 815am for other than
medical or dental appointments will constitute a
partial unexcused absence, counting towards the
Habitually Truant definition, as defined in
Arizona Revised Statutes, ARS 15-803, as any
student who is truant for at least 5 days during
a school year. Any combination of five unexcused
15 minute tardies and/or five one-half hour
unexcused early checkouts will count as one
unexcused absence for purposes of documenting
truancy.
Consequences for Unexcused Tardy/Early Checkout
Students who have five unexcused tardy / early
checkout will equal one unexcused absence,
counting towards the Habitually Truant
definition.
