Churches Have a Life-Cycle

• Congregations generally have an average
  life-cycle of about 65 years.
• Conception (6-18 months)
• Infancy (18-months - 5 years)
• Growth (adolescence 6-15 years)
• Maturity/Plateau (15-30 years)
• Decline/Intervention/Restart (30-65 years)

It is Natural to Reproduce

• All healthy organisms reproduceplants, animals,

• Reproduction is Gods intention for the church (2

• Generally only illness prevents reproduction

Why Should Congregations take the Initiative to
Plant?

• Because congregations come to an end and must
  reproduce in their season of ability
• Because planting is the best evangelistic method
  under heaven
• Congregations are more effective planting
  daughter churches than are denominations
• Biblical model - Ephesus planted the six other
  churches of Asia Minor (Rev. 2-3)

Results of British Research

• Daughter churches are growing 12X faster than
  churches who are more than 5 years old.
• Mother churches are growing 3X faster than those
  not having planted a new church.
• 50 of newcomers are converts, 12 are renewed
  nominal believers not previously involved.

When to Plant

• Adolescence (5-15 years) - high energy, vision,
  growth potential
• Adult stability even decline (20-50 years) - less
  energy, vision, growth potential but can
  co-parent with others
• Finishing well (50 - 65 ) - resources given to
  seed new plants

• Cast the Vision (6 months)

• Develop Plans (2 months)
• Identify Leaders (3 months)
• Train Workers (3 months)
• Begin the Work (6 months)
• Public Launch!
• Recovery Period. Repeat each 3-5 years.
