IAHS the (relatively) new kid on the block

• IAHS Institute for Applied Health Sciences
• Building is a collaboration between Mohawk and
  McMaster
• Result of Ontario governments push to encourage
  colleges and universities to work together

Who lives at the IAHS?

• All of Mohawks health sciences programs
• B.Sc.N. (degree), RPN (2 yrs)
• Medical Radiation Sciences (degree)
• Diagnostic cardiac sonography (1 yr. post-dipl)
• OTA/PTA (2yrs), PSW (2 sem), Cardiovascular tech
  (1 yr), pharmacy tech (2 yrs)
• Plus McMasters School of Rehabilitation Sci.

Our students are Mac students

• All f/t students at the IAHS get a McMaster
  student card
• Have limited borrowing privileges at McMaster
  libraries
• Can get a Mac ID for access to the network
• Only students in degree programs (B.Sc.N. and
  Med. Rad. Sci.) qualify for Libaccess

Nursing collaboration

• B.Sc.N. degree minimum qualification for entry
  to practice as of 2005
• Each community college in the province had to
  find a university partner
• Most collaborative models involve the college
  teaching first 2 years and the university the
  final 2 years
• Mohawk/McMaster/Conestoga collaboration
  Conestoga and Mohawk deliver ALL FOUR YEARS of
  the McMaster B.Sc.N. program.

OLRN Ontario Learning Resources for Nursing

• Consortium of all university and college
  libraries teaching nursing
• Established to ensure level playing field in
  terms of access to e-resources
• Facilitated consortium purchase of CINAHL,
  Medline, EBMR and 8 books through OVID plus
  Proquest Nursing journals

Medical Radiation Sciences collaboration

• Collaboration between Mohawks dept. of Medical
  Imaging and McMasters dept. of Medical Physics
  and Applied Radiation Sci. to design a completely
  new program
• Graduating students receive a professional
  advanced diploma and a B.Sc. Degree
• First intake Sept. 2004

Life at McMaster

• We are on McMasters network therefore have
  access to Macs e-resources (thanks!)
• 50 computers for student use in the Library _at_
  IAHS 14 set up for direct access to the
  internet rest require MUGSI authentication
• About 12 MacConnect ports activated
• Wireless coming!
