General Comments
  • Clear general objectives, but overwhelming
    specific objectives
  • Overall well organized, but formal teaching
sessions poorly administered in Block 2
  • Formal teaching disrupts day
  • Written exam did not reflect experiences in CTU
    and ER
  • Considerable variation in oral examination
    evaluation
  • Exit interview should be more personal and
    constructive

7
General Comments Contd
  • Consultants/residents contribute well to learning
    environment (through formal and informal
    teaching)
  • Although good exposure to paediatrics, many feel
some general outpatient paediatrics should be
    mandatory

8
CTU Comments
  • Good variety of patient problems
  • Excellent team medicine learning experience,
however sometimes paperwork got in the way of
    clinical learning
  • Appropriate level of responsibility and
    independence
  • Expectations, though, not clearly defined
  • Physically exhausting and busy service, sometimes
too busy for good informal teaching
  • More bedside teaching needed

9
Paeds ER Comments
  • Breadth of problem exposure and procedure
involvement varied from student to student, week
    to week
  • Great teaching around patients with good hands on
    learning
  • More service based than learning based compared
    to other rotations
  • Some consultants did not hand in evaluations

Windsor Comments
  • Excellent learning experience
  • Enthusiastic consultants dedicated to quality
teaching appropriate for level of clerk
  • Few opportunities for procedures in ER
  • I was extremely pleased with my learning
    experience in paediatrics in Windsor.

Summary
  • An excellent learning experience overall with
    great consultants and residents
  • More teaching (formal and bedside)
  • Specific learning objectives (cases) overwhelming
and not reflective of clinical experience
  • Evaluation methods not reflective of clinical
    experience
  • Mandatory general outpatient component should be
    considered
