2
The basis of participation in ITEA2
  • Participation in Eureka projects
  • E!3489 Mobile Personal ECG Monitor
  • (2005-2007),
  • E!4452 Functional state evaluation system with
distributed intellect for elderly and disabled
    persons (2008)

Functional state evaluation system with
distributed intellect for elderly population
  • Proposing company - Institute of Cardiology of
    Kaunas University of Medicine, Lithuania
  • The goal of the project is development system for
monitoring and multilevel complex evaluation of
heart function and motion abilities for elderly
    and disabled persons
  • Project idea is to develop tools of
    electrocardiosignals (ECG), respiration
intensity, movement signals monitoring and online
or offline analysis using multi-stage non-linear
analysis methods and evaluation of complexity
changes as measure of human organism status.

General goal of GUARANTEE project
  • The goal of project GUARANTEE is to
significantly enhance the personal safety of
people in the home environment by introducing an
active safety product (or safety system) that is
functionally enhanced by a networked service.

14
GUARANTEE project summary
  • Home and leisure accidents are a major worry,
especially for the parents of young children and
for adults with elderly parents. Home security is
an increasingly important concern for European
citizens. GUARANTEE provides a technical solution
for personal safety in the home environment.
    GUARANTEE introduces local and network-supported
decision making for safety applications on the
basis of sensor input and with immediate response
and feedback to the people concerned.

Consumer needs of GUARANTEE system
  • Consumer needs for home and leisure safety exist
    mainly in 3 areas
  • Safety of babies and young children,
  • Safety of elderly and disabled people which want
to retain their independence and to control their
    own lives,
  • Home security systems for fire protection or
    burglar alarms.

Dissemination and Exploitation Results of
Lithuania Institutions
  • INSTITUTE OF CARDIOLOGY OF KAUNAS UNIVERSITY OF
    MEDICINE
  • Institute of cardiology will apply the
methods of developed heart function analysis and
extend them to the situations where emotional
state of patient will be evaluated. The end
result will be new analysis methods, articles,
    presentation on conferences, university courses.
  • GERIATRIC CLINIC OF KAUNAS UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE
  • Introducing enabling and home safety
technologies for dementia patients and healthy
elderly, participation in development of new
products, dissemination of experience via study
process for students, doctors, nurses, social
    workers, publications in medical press.

20
Dissemination and Exploitation Results of
Lithuania Institutions
  • FUNDAMENTAL SCIENCES FACULTY OF KAUNAS UNIVERSITY
OF TECHNOLOGY. Methods and data mining models for
nonlinear analysis of people heart monitoring
data. Models and algorithms for evaluation of
complexity. Intelligent software for assisting in
    early diagnosis cardiovascular accidents. Project
results will be presented at conferences and in
    scientific journals.
  • UAB KARDIOSIGNALAS.
  • UAB Kardiosignalas intends to extend ECG and
motion signals monitoring system for elderly.

21
Consortium overview
  • In this project a competent consortium works
together, originating from 12 European countries
    54 partners.
  • The GUARANTEE consortium consists of large
companies (such as Thales and Philips), SMEs
(such as ETIC and Kardiosignalas) and several
universities (such as the universities of Madrid
and Kaunas) as well as research centres (VTT and
    ESI). This consortium includes world-class
complementary partners with all the required
know-how in the whole added value chain from
research to manufacturing, business roles and
    market coverage.

Task T2.5 Training data acquisition. Task
leader Institute of Cardiology of Kaunas
University of Medicine
  • This task builds a set of annotated databases of
safety events that will be used to develop the
    signal processing algorithms.
  • The database needs to be sufficiently
comprehensive to ensure the quality of the signal
    processing algorithms.
  • Several databases are required corresponding to
    the different types of signal.
  • Special attention is required to enable the
exploitation of context information by the sensor
    systems.

24
Project duration
  • Start date 01.06.2009
  • End date 31.05.2012
  • Duration 36 months

28
Lithuania partners role and contribution in the
project
  • The main task of Institute of Cardiology of
Kaunas University of Medicine in participating in
the project is creation of intellectual means,
that is to say methods, algorithms and programs
for assessment of functional status basing on
on-line and off-line analysis of data that are
received from home monitoring of ECG, respiration
and motion activity. For real time analysis of
recorded processes the linear methods and for
    off-line analysis - non-linear analysis methods,
based on chaos and complex system theories will
    be used.
  • The another goal is management of the project
    partners from Lithuania.
  • Key persons Habil. dr. Prof. Alfonsas Vainoras,
Head of science researcher, Dr. Liudas Gargasas.

29
Lithuania partners role and contribution in the
project
  • The goal of Geriatric Clinic of Kaunas University
of Medicine in participating in the project is
development of medical requirements for computer
system, designed for evaluation of functional
status of geriatric patients, forming database
