ERASMUS
  • Seeks to enhance the quality and reinforce the

Some history of the group
  • In 1990 Suffolk College, Ipswich UK made contact
    with University Hospital, Leiden.
  • Contact was made with Brussels to start a
    network
  • In 1994 the first 21 student took part in a
    student exchange between the UK, Norway -
    Hogskole I Bergen, and The Netherlands -
    Hogeschool Haarlem
  • By 2005 over 700 students from the 14
    institutions have studied for a period of three
    months in another European country.

Mission statement of ERG
  • Through European cooperation we intend to improve
    quality, creativity and innovation in education.
  • We intend to develop and extend a network of
    European centres of excellence for education and
    training in radiography
  • We will foster student and staff exchanges and
    develop the European dimension of radiography
    education.

Student mobility
  • ERASMUS gives students the opportunity to study
    for a period of 3-12 months at a University in
    another participating country, after signing an
    institutional contract
  • Time spent in other country is fully recognised
    in the home institution due to ECTS which
    facilitates academic recognition of periods of
    study in partner institutions
  • Prior agreement between Universities and student

The credit system
  • A systematic way of describing an educational
    programme by attaching credits to its components
    based on different parameters, such as student
    workload, learning outcomes and contact hours.

  • European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System
    is a student-centred system based on the student
    workload required to achieve the objectives of a
    programme specified in terms of the learning
    outcomes and competencies to be acquired.

Student exchanges in Radiography at IHC
  • The first eight Maltese radiography students took
    part in an exchange in 1996.
  • The first group of radiography students came to
    the IHC in January 1997 when 6 students from The
    Netherlands and Finland participated.
  • The course programme includes units in Maltese
    Language, History and Culture besides Radiography
    theoretical study units and clinical practice

  • Exchange takes place in the third year of the
    course
  • Part of course programme for incoming and
    outgoing students
  • Duration is 3 months (January March)
  • Has an ECTS value of 20
  • Students join in with Maltese Students for
    lectures
