    understand the differences between adult care
    facilities and nursing homes.

Activities of Daily Living-(ADL)
  • Eating can feed themselves
  • Bathing and hygiene
  • Dressing
  • Toileting
  • Ambulating

Goals of ACF
  • To offer cueing and assistance for the resident
    to remain independent and on their own.
  • ACF offers meals, medication management,
    socialization, assistance with personal grooming
    and housekeeping.

Types of Adult Care Facilities
  • Adult Homes
  • Assisted Living Programs
  • Enriched Housing
  • Family Type Homes

Adult Homes
  • Provide residential care, room, board,
    housekeeping, personal care and supervision to
    five or more adults unrelated to operator.
  • Also provides three meals daily, 24/7 staffing
    and custodial care.
  • For-profit, public or not-for-profit.
  • Residents should be able (with direction) to
    evacuate the facility in case of an emergency.

Enriched Housing
  • Settings are more like an independent housing
    unit.
  • Provides room, board, housekeeping, personal
    care, and supervision.
  • Does not require 24 hour staffing (some
    exceptions dementia units.)
  • Provides minimum of one hot meal daily.
  • Provides case management, housekeeping, food
    service and staffing.

Family Type Home
  • Provides long-term residential care, room, board,
    housekeeping, personal care and/or supervision
    for four or fewer adults unrelated to operator.

Assisted Living Program (ALP)
  • Facility located within an adult home or enriched
    housing facility that combines residential and
    home care services. Designed as an alternative to
    nursing home placement for individuals with
    stable medical conditions who are nursing home
    eligible. An ALP will contract with a Certified
    Home Health Care Agency (CHHA) for skilled
    nursing home services. Must provide 24 hour, 7
    day/week supervision.

Continuing Care Retirement Communities
  • Campus Style
  • Offer continuum of services, for independent
    apartments with home care services, enriched
    housing, and a nursing home.
  • Often requires substantial residency fees.

Skilled Nursing Facility
  • Provides 24 hour a day skilled nursing care and
    related services, or rehabilitative services for
    the injured or disabled.
  • NH require the completion of a Patient Review
    Instrument (PRI) prior to placement.

  • Can discharge if money runs out

  • Average monthly private pay rate is 2000-4800
  • SSI
  • Residents need assistance/cueing for personal
    care.
