GRAPHING NOTES
  • GRAPHS COME IN SEVERAL STYLES-
  • PIE, LINE, BAR, and SCATTER.
  • Pie Graphs are used for percentages or to show
the parts that make up a whole.
  • Bar Graphs are used to compare pairs or groups
over time. Ex) Grades in mult. classes over
    years.
  • Line graphs are often used to show continual
changes over a period of time.

There are also graphs calledscatter plots
  • - A type of line graph that uses horizontal and
vertical axes to plot data points.
  • Scatter plots show how much one variable is
    affected by another.
  • The relationship between two variables is called
    their correlation

7
Scatter Plots
  • Data points in a straight line going from the
origin out to high x- and y-values positive
    correlation.
  • Line from a high-value on the y-axis down to a
high-value on the x-axis, the variables have a
    negative correlation.

8
If you cannot connect your data points in a
straight line

GRAPHING RULES (Copy onto the back of your note
outline)
  • 1. ALL GRAPHS MUST HAVE A TITLE.
  • 2. BOTH X Y AXIS MUST BE IDENTIFIED.
  • 3. A KEY MUST BE GIVEN FOR EACH COLOR.
  • 4. EACH AXIS MUST BE GIVEN A SCALE.
  • SCALES and GRAPHED POINTS (LINES) MAY BE DONE IN
    PENCIL.
  • 6. USE A RULER FOR ALL LINES !
  • 7. LABELS MUST BE IN INK,
  • NEATNESS COUNTS!
