Title: PANDAS

PANDAS
  • By Nancy D.

2
A few useful Facts
  • Males are slightly larger than the females
  • They have scent glands positioned under the tail
  • They weigh 165 353 pounds
  • They have a brilliant sense of smell

3
More small facts
  • Pandas have pads on their front paws but not
their back ones so that they can grip bamboo
    easily
  • A Panda has very poor vision. Like many nocturnal
creatures the eyes are just a vertical slit

4
What do Pandas eat?
  • A wild giant pandas diet is almost 99 bamboo.
The balance consists of other grasses and
occasional small rodents or musk deer fawns. In
zoos, giant pandas eat bamboo, sugar cane, rice,
gruel, a special high-fibre biscuit, carrots,
    apples,and sweet potatoes.

5
COOL!!!
  • There are many different species of Panda,
including a red brown and white one!
  • People hunt for Panda skin and bones for
medicines and rugs. This is illegal and you can
get a life sentence in prison if you are caught
selling or poaching these beautiful creatures.
After all, there are only about 1,000 left in the
    wild

6
Where do they live?
  •
  • Wild giant pandas are found only in southwestern
    China.
  • Giant pandas inhabit damp, misty forests of
bamboo and conifers. Their preferred habitat has
dense stands of at least one species of bamboo
    (preferably more).

What I think
  • Pandas are beautiful animals. They are endangered
and some Scientists estimate that they will be
extinct in the next 15 years.

10
The Red Panda
  • The red panda is a smaller relative of the well
known giant panda. The wah is slightly larger
than a large housecat, has rusty red fur, a long
light and dark striped tail, a short white nose,
and dark tear tracks. Red pandas are called by
many names. Some of these are lesser panda,
hun-ho, wah, and red cat bear.

Save the Pandas Now!
  • Joining a fund like the WWF can save a great
species like the Panda. For 3 a month you can
save all sorts of animals, but Pandas are the
main one. The money will pay for equipment to rid
    the world of Panda poaching.
