Understanding Iambic Pentameter(The writing
technique Shakespeare uses)
  • IAMBIC the words go from unstressed syllable to
    stressed syllable
  • I.e. daDUM daDUM daDUM!
  • Each unit is called a FOOT
  • Because he used PENTAMETER, each FOOT is repeated
    5 TIMES per line

    extreme sorrow, especially as a consequence of a
    tragic flaw, moral weakness, or inability to cope
    with unfavorable circumstances.
