3Types of Kelp on the Cape Shore
The following list contains the major types of
seaweed on the Cape Shore
- Laminaria digitata (Horse tail kelp) -as a food
either dried or smoked -an excellent food
for Sea Urchins
- Fucus spp. (Rockweed)
-stewed and used as a tea or broth -and used
as animal feed

- Rhodymenia palmata (Dulse) -used to
flavor food -used to produce alcohol
- Plunaria and ptliota (storm tossed kelp) -used
extensively as a fertilizer -occasionally
used as animal feed
- Ascophyllum Nodosum (rockweed) -good source of
vitamin C -used as a fertilizer source
