Title: PowerPoint Presentation School To Work Program
1School-To-Work Program
Atlantic Community School District
2Mission
- The mission of the Atlantic STW Committee is to
promote communication between the Atlantic
business community and the Atlantic Community
Schools for the purpose of helping prepare
students for a constructive work life.
3Vision
- The Atlantic STW Committee will serve local
businesses and the Atlantic Community School
District (ACSD) by helping facilitate a smooth
transition from school to either employment or
further education for all students, supporting
local businesses in finding qualified future
employees by including work-and career-related
perspectives in K-12 curriculum, and assisting
the school district in its comprehensive
improvement plan.
4Goals
- Share with ACSD the cost of a part-time paid
coordinator to over see the connection. - Appoint student links who will check in monthly
with each building in the school district to
promote STW activities, and to share those
activities with the committee. - Appoint a committee member to chair the committee
meetings.
5Goals (continued)
- Link business persons with school administration,
teachers, and students in both an advisory and an
inquiry role, sharing needs, and offering support
in determining short term and long term goals of
career training in the Atlantic schools. - Suggest and provide opportunities for students
and teachers to gain exposure to real-life
business experiences and demonstrate real-life
applications for academic work. - Assist in career and work place training
programs, and events like portfolios, interviews,
job shadowing, and career fairs.
6Format
- The Committee, composed of interested business
persons and school personnel including students,
will meet monthly August-April in an open forum
to discuss, examine, and accomplish the mission,
vision, and goals of the group.
7- Constant training, re-training, job hopping, and
even career hopping will become the norm. - The annual rate of growth for World Wide Web
traffic is 341,000 percent. Approximately 159
countries are reachable by electronic mail. - There has been more information produced in the
last 30 years than during the previous 5000. - The available information supplied doubles every
3 to 5 years. - Within the next decade, education will change
more than it has changed since the printed book
created the modern school over 3000 years ago.
Education can no longer be confined to the
schools. Every employee institution has to
become a teacher.
8School-To-Work Meetings
- The School-To-Work Committee meets at noon on the
third Thursday of each month with the exception
