Title: DEVELOPMENT OF A SPIRITUAL MIND
1DEVELOPMENT OF A SPIRITUAL MIND
Romans 85-6
2Introduction
- Paul makes it clear that the sensuous
- minded person and the spiritually
- minded person are contrary to each
- other.
- He said that the flesh lusts against
- the Spirit, and the Spirit against the
- flesh and these are contrary to one
- another, so that you do not do the
- things that you wish (Gal. 517)
3For they that are after the flesh do mind the
things of the flesh but they that are after the
Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be
carnally minded is death but to be spiritually
minded is life and peace. (Rom. 85-6)
4- The blessings of life and peace do not
- come mystically or haphazardly, but
- are given to those who are spiritually
- minded.
Our objective in this lesson is to explore what
is meant by the spiritual mind.
5Spiritual Minded Heavenly Minded
- Blessed be the God and Father of our
- Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us
- with every spiritual blessing in the
- heavenly places in Christ (Eph. 13).
- The focus must be on in heavenly
- places -- have a heaven-focused mind.
- Paul gave the Philippians a list of holy
- traits saying, think on these things
- (Phil. 48).
6- One who is risen with Christ will seek
- those things aboveset your affections
- on things above, not on things on the
- earth (Col. 31-2).
- Jesus taught that we are to lay up
- treasures in heavennot upon the
- earthfor where your treasure is there
- will your heart be also which are not
- subject to moth, rust, or thieves (Mt.
- 619-21).
- Heaven is not a fleshly place (1 Cor.
- 1550).
7Spiritual Minded Humbly Minded
- Blessed are the poor in spirit for
- theirs is the kingdom of heaven
- (Mt. 53).
- Let this mind be in you, which was
- also in Christ Jesus (Phil. 25).
- What was the mind of Christ?
Humility is connected to obedience!
8- Refusal to obey is not humility,
- but pride!
- There is no life or peace outside of
- humble obedience to the will of
- God!
Spiritual Minded Holy Minded
- Follow peace with all men, and
- holiness, without which no man
- shall see the Lord (Heb. 1214).
- In the judgment, what manner of
- persons ought you to be (2 Pet. 311-12).
9Conclusion
- As Christians, we are to be partakers
- of the heavenly calling (Heb. 31).
- This earthly life is not lived to satisfy
- the flesh, but to serve the Father.
- The spiritually minded man is always
- concerned with his soul and knows
- that sin will take his reward of heaven
- away from him.

11A man carved the likeness of an elephant out of
a huge unsightly boulder in his front yard.
I just chipped away everything that didnt look
like an elephant!
12But we allreflecting as a mirror the glory of
the Lord, are transformed into the same imageby
the Spirit of the Lord (2 Cor. 318).
Gods word is the instrument by which He
operates on us to change us (Col. 212).
