2This wonderful monument
- The monument is called Trevi Fountain. It is the
largest standing 25.9 meters high and 19.8 meters
wide fountain in whole Rome. - It is located in the rione of Trevi, near the
Mediterranean sea. - Today it is used as a relax spot for all
tourists and citizens. - It is also known as one of the best wish-parks
all over the world.
3In 1629, Pope has chosen Bernini, one great
designer, to sketch sightseeing's possible
renovations. After Popes death, the whole
structure has stopped. A few years later, Bernini
has started the structure from the beginning,
because of his opponent designer, Salvi. They had
different opinions and results, so Salvi took the
job. In the half-finished work he died. The
Trevi Fountain was finished in 1762 by Giuseppe
Pannini, who substituted the present bland
allegories.

4Monument History
- The fountain at the juncture of three roads
marks the terminal point of the "modern" Acqua
Vergine, the revivified Aqua Virgo, one of the
ancient aqueducts that supplied water to ancient
Rome. In 19 BC, supposedly with the help of a
virgin, Roman technicians located a source of
pure water some 13 km (8 miles) from the city. - The Roman custom of building a handsome fountain
at the endpoint of an aqueduct that brought water
to Rome was revived in the fifteenth century,
with the Renaissance. In 1453, Pope Nicholas V
finished mending the Acqua Vergine aqueduct and
built a simple basin, designed by the humanist
architect Leon Battista Alberti, to herald the
water's arrival.
5Conclusion
- In my opinion, Trevi Fountain is one of the best
things to see in Rome. - On Trevi Square you can enjoy your breakfast in a
cafeteria near the fountain or take a walk. - I personally have a recent experience at this
beautiful sight, because I was in Italy with my
family and we visited this beautiful sight. - I recommend it!
