Title: Supersize My Exercise
1Supersize My Exercise!
Fitness Fun Day Southgate School
- Culture Committee
- Washington High School
2We used the 2,000 dollar grant from Massillon
Community Health Foundation to promote health at
a Fitness Fun Day at Southgate School for the
MRDD in Canton.
- We bought T-shirts for the students and staff to
promote fitness with the theme Supersize my
exercise! - We used the remaining money to buy supplies for
the games, which were donated to the school
afterwards, and healthy items for goody bags that
we would give each of the kids. - On March 4 we went to Southgate School and had a
blast with the kids!
3We went shopping at K-Mart and bought balls,
tubs, bowling sets, and cups for the activities.
4We raided the shelves of K-Mart and bought as
much apple sauce, fruit cups, juice boxes, and
raisins as we could find.
5We bought travel-sized tubes of toothpaste,
bottles of shampoo, soap, and packs of tissues.
6Checkout was mass chaos! We are grateful to Nancy
who was so patient and gracious as she helped us
ring up 170 of each of the items we bought.
7Previous to Fitness Fun Day we sent T-shirts to
the school to get the staff and students excited.
We encouraged them to wear the T-shirts on that
day.
8We went to Southgate School on March 4. We had
45 minutes to set up before the first group of
kids came in We were excited!
9We had four stations
- Bowling
- Cup/Bowl Stacking
- Hula Hoop Toss
- Rubber Ball Toss
After the activities, we had a sing-along time
with motions and dancing to get the kids
moving. As they left we gave them goody bags with
items to keep them healthy!
10BowlingWe set up two stations. One had a ramp,
provided by the school, that made it easier to
aim the ball at the pins.
11Cup/Bowl StackingWe helped the kids either
stack the cups and bowls in a pyramid or one on
top of the other. They were so excited when they
accomplished this tough feat!
12Hula Hoop TossThe kids had a blast tossing the
squishy balls through the hula hoops!
13Ball TossWe bought rubber balls and bins to
throw them into. When we arrived at the school,
we found more balls and targets to use.
14Sing-alongWe led the kids in singing simple,
upbeat songs with motions. We all had a great
time!
15Goody bagsOn the way out, each kid got a goody
bag filled with the fruit and hygiene products we
bought from K-Mart.
16Elementary SchoolWe had two groups of
elementary students. Both were excited to get
involved!
