Title: It's A Good Thing There Are Insects
1It's A Good Thing There Are Insects
2Sometimes we call them bugs. But their real name
is insects. All insects have six legs like a
grasshopper.
3Most insects, like flies, have wings.
4Some insects live in trees like cicadas,
5 and some live in water like water beetles.
6Some insects, including most ants, make their
home in the ground.
7They have their own little town, where each ant
does its own kind of work.
8A caterpillar forms a shell, called a chrysalis,
around itself.
9In the chrysalis, the caterpillar changes into a
butterfly.
10This home for bees is called hive.
11Some insects are harmful to people. Mosquitoes
can bite you.
12Wasps can sting you.
13Locusts can eat a farmers crops.
14But insects are helpful to us in many ways. We
get silk from the cocoon of a silkworm.
15We get honey from bees.
16As bees fly from flower to flower, they carry
pollen to help the flowers grow.
17Some insects are pretty like this monarch
butterfly.
18Insects serve as food too. Many animals and birds
and fish and reptiles live by eating insects.
19But they leave the walking stick alone. They
think its a twig!
20Some insects glow in the dark like a firefly or a
lightning bug.
21Some insects make sounds like a cricket.
22So the next time you see a beetle
23 or a lady bug, remember its a good thing
there are insects!
