8Health Education Assessment Project (HEAP)
- The mission of the HEAP is to foster meaningful
assessment of student knowledge and skills within
a comprehensive school health program through the
development of materials and resources.
9What Have We Done Together? Settled the land of
assessment by developing
- Scoring rubrics for content and skills based on
the NHES - An Assessment Framework
- Various types of assessment items
- Student Exemplars
- A variety of materials for professional
development - We established our foundation our constitution
10The Constitution was signed in Philadelphia
- Do we need amendments to our original
constitution? - Is it time to take a fresh look at what we have
produced and see what changes we may need that
will help us as we grow? - Can we engage in a discourse on the issues to
move us to the next level of development?
11My Vision for the Health Education Assessment
Project
12As a Result of the HEAP
- Health Education is accepted as a legitimate and
important discipline in education - Administrators support the implementation of a
K-12 health education program within a
coordinated school health program because they
understand the connection between students
health and their educational achievement - All health teachers teach to the standards and
use performance-based assessment to analyze
student learning and modify their teaching
13As a result of the HEAP
- Categorical funders recognize the wisdom of
funding a comprehensive K-12 health education
program based on aligning curriculum,
instruction, and assessment - All members are at the expert level in assessment
literacy and therefore are valued and respected
members of their school system
14As a Result of the HEAP
- All students will identify health education as
their favorite and most influential subject and
grow up to take positions as health educators,
school superintendents, school board members, and
elected officials at the local, state and federal
levels. . . - And then our former students will elevate the
status of health education across the land!
15As a Result of Our Pioneering Successes
- All 50 states and US territories will join the
HEAP because they recognized that this is the
train they want to hitch their wagon to!!
16What is your vision for the HEAP?
