Physical Description
  • Elephants are the largest land mammal on land and
    they have thick gray-brown wrinkled skin.
  • They have tiny tails, big ears and a really long
    nose that is called a trunk.
  • The baby elephant can weigh up to 250 pounds when
    it is born and the adults can weigh up to 13,000
    pounds

Habitat
  • Elephants live all over Africa except in the
    north.
  • They live where it is warm on the savannas and in
    the bush and south of the Sahara desert.
  • Most elephants today live in protected national
    parks and reserves so they wont be hunted.

Food and diet
  • It will eat as much plants as it wants from
    600-1)000 pounds a day.
  • It will go around Africa to find food.
  • They need salt and dig in the ground to find it
    they will suck on a little piece like candy.

Predators
  • The baby will stay in the middle of the pack to
    stay safe.
  • People will try to kill elephants for their ivory
    tusks.
  • They cant run that fast from their other
    predator the lion.

Babies
  • Females only have 1 baby a year it can weigh 200
    pounds and it is gray.
  • Babies stay with their moms until they are 11
    years old if they are male.
  • Girl babies stay with their moms for life.

  • It needs about 50 gallons of water a day.
  • It has 60,000 muscles in its trunk.
  • An adult African elephant can eat 600 to 1,000
    pounds of food a day.
