the most interest in the landscape.

Why Do You Prune?
  • To shape the plants, reduce the size of the top
of the plant when transplanting, and to thin out
    dead wood.

5
What Is a Bareroot Plant?
  • These plants are transported and transplanted
with no soil around the roots. This method is
used only for small shrubs. These plants are to
be moved only when they are dormant.

6
What are Container Grown Plants?
  • Grown in containers such as pots, baskets, and
    tubs
  • Root system is damaged less in transplanting
  • Can be transplanted any time during the year

7
Type of Fertilizer
  • 10-6-4 for foliage type fertilizer.
  • 5-10-10 for flowering type fertilizer.
  • Use 2-5 lb. per 100 sq. ft.

8
Roots are twisted around the container?
  • You should cut them off at the edge of the ball
to encourage the development of new roots as the
    plant continues to grow.

9
Deciduous Shrubs Prefer?
  • Prefer a well-drained loam soil

10
Type of Hole to Use in Planting Deciduous Shrubs
  • Holes should have straight sides and a flat
    bottom.
  • Used to encourage root growth through the sides
    of the hole.
  • Plant at the same depth at which they were
    growing before.
