• Do only the experiment directed
• Be prepared (prelab done) and read through the
  lab before coming to class

• No horseplay
• Keep lab area clean uncluttered
• Always work in a well ventilated area
• Dispose of chemical waste properly
• Solid materials are not to be flushed down sink
  (matches, metals)
• Read labels
• Clean lab area when done, return all lab
  equipment wash your hands!

• Do not wander
• Know what to do during a fire drill
• Turn off all equipment and exit the classroom
• Treat microorganisms as if they were harmful
• Do not hold a specimen in your hand while using a
  scalpel

• Lab goggles are to be worn any time chemicals,
  heat, or glassware is used
• Contact lenses should not be worn in the lab
  (only if permission is granted)
• Lab aprons have been provided and should be worn
  in selected activities

• Report any accident or injury
• If a chemical splashes in your eye or on your
  skin
• Flush for 20 minutes in eyewash or safety shower

• Handling Chemicals
• All chemicals are to be considered dangerous
• Only smell by wafting
• Hazardous chemicals must be placed in the fume
  hood near the vent
• Stir solutions with a glass stirring rod
• Never return unused chemicals to original
  container
• Acids should be added to water, not vice versa
• Any unlabeled chemicals should be given to the
  teacher

• Handling Glassware Equipment
• Never hand broken glass with bare hands
• Use brush and dustpan
• Examine glassware
• Do not use broken or chipped glassware
• If you do not understand a piece of equipment,
  ask for help

  anyone
• Never look into a container that is being heated
