3CAHSEE Requirement
- All students must satisfy the CAHSEE requirement,
as well as all other state and local
requirements, in order to receive a California
public high school diploma - The CAHSEE requirement can be satisfied by
passing the exam or, for students with
disabilities, receiving a local waiver pursuant
to Education Code Section 60851(c)
4Local Waiver Process
- At the request of the students parent or
guardian, a school principal must submit to the
local school board a request for a waiver of the
requirement to pass the part(s) of the CAHSEE on
which a modification was used and the equivalent
of a passing score was earned.

- For the local board to waive the CAHSEE
requirement, the principal must certify the pupil
has - An IEP or Section 504 Plan that requires the
modifications to be provided to the student when
taking the CAHSEE - Completed, or in the process of completing, high
school-level coursework sufficient to have
attained the skills and knowledge otherwise
needed to pass the CAHSEE - A score report showing that the student received
the equivalent of a passing score on the CAHSEE
while using a modification - Lets look at the waiver form. What are the
issues with the waivers?

8Test Administration Reminders
- There is an updated Manual and DFA
- Exams can only be administered on approved dates,
including special education students - A listing of Special Education students taking
CAHSEE over multiple days must be submitted to R
E by June 19th. - Adult students must be enrolled in school to take
the exam - Transcribe all essays onto a scannable answer
document - Use only one answer document per student
- The November administration cost for errors was
more than 2000
9Remediation
- Education Code Section 37252- Districts must
provide remediation to students in grades seven
through twelve who do not show sufficient
progress toward passing the CAHSEE. - Education Code Section 37254- Intensive

11SAUSD CAHSEE Success Plan
- Assembly to discuss graduation requirements,
including CAHSEE administrations, and
preparation/ remediation plan. Principals will
submit date and agenda of assembly to Educational

- Grade 10 in January, prior to CAHSEE programs
beginning - Grade 11 12 in fall AND spring for students who
have not passed - Parent Meeting regarding graduation and CAHSEE

student to discuss the following - In March of 9th grade, 9th grade proficiency

participation, and participation in the November
and March administration will be reviewed. - For grade 12 non-passers, students will be placed
in a semester long course in the fall and spring
(if necessary). Students will be met with four
times per year to discuss progress and options.

- Letter sent in mail to parents/guardians
distributed four weeks prior to the
administration (provided by RE) - Phone Message (using TeleParent) one month prior
to administration, and one time each week
thereafter. One week before administration date,
there will be an message everyday. - Letter to parents/guardians 1 week prior to the
administration (provided by RE) - Entrance ticket is distributed to each student
the week prior to CAHSEE (provided by RE) - Individual Student Report and letter sent to
parent/guardians within two weeks. Letter will
include remediation programs available. First
letter will be sent out in October.

15Summary Of Responsibilities for Test Site
Coordinator
- The test site coordinator is responsible for the
administration of the CAHSEE within the school or
test site. The coordinator is also directly
responsible for coordinating all activities
pertaining to the security, distribution, and
return of materials, as well as training all test
examiners, test proctors, and scribes.
16Results Requirements
- Districts must maintain in each students
permanent record the following information - The date(s) the student took the CAHSEE
- Whether the student satisfied the CAHSEE
requirement for each section of the CAHSEE - Must be entered in the students permanent record
within 60 days of receiving data files from test
contractor.
17Before Testing
Students must finish within the school day
- Schedule
- CAHSEE training for examiners and proctors,
including those assisting with coordination and
special education staff - Submit Student Absence Form
- Test sessions should start between the hours of
800a.m. and 1000a.m. (overflow room) - Inform parents and students about testing

18More Scheduling Information
- Refer to the Table in the District and Test Site
Coordinators manual on p. 5 for approximate
administration times for each session. Test is
un-timed! - Test examiners will need to provide a break for
students between Sessions 12. - Short Breaks Students should remain in the
testing room unless they need to use the
restroom. Students must be monitored at all
times. - Extended Breaks Examiners must collect and
account for all test materials before dismissing
students for the break. Materials are to be
redistributed to students for the second session.

22Students During Testing
- Students desks MUST be cleared during testing
- Please be sure that students have enough room at
their desk for both the answer document and test
booklet - All backpacks, purses, and cell phones must be on
the floor - No books or magazines on desks during testing
- Cell Phones must be put away
23Testing Environment
- No instructional materials directly related to
the content of the test should be visible to any
students during testing - Administrators will be checking to verify that
your classroom materials have been covered or
removed prior to testing - Verify that your classroom has been cleared for
testing.

25Room Arrangement
- Desks are arranged in rows (unless testing in a
science lab, etc.) - Students and desks are facing the same direction
- Students and desks are spaced as far apart as
possible
26Test Security
- Boxes must be kept sealed. Be sure and reseal and
sign tape after inventory check. - Test Security Affidavits and Test Security
Agreements must be signed. Keep one copy on file
at school and return one copy to RE.
27Preparing Answer Documents
- Do not use the Pre-IDed answer document for a
different student. Write VOID on the answer
document and return it with your non-scorable
materials - Do not use two answer documents for any student.
If a student with a pre-IDed answer document is
provided a blank answer document for one session,
transcribe the information on to the Pre-IDed
answer document - Gridding a student name in the name grid will NOT
override the Pre-ID information

- Demographic information that is hand-gridded on a
pre-id answer document is only valid if it is NOT
one of the pre-ID demographic fields - Students without a Pre-IDed document must be
supplied a blank answer document and ALL
demographic information must be hand-gridded by

- Once you become aware of a data error contact RE

45Making Corrections To Data Continued
- Complete a CAHSEE Request Form and submit to RE
will auditable evidence. Be sure to include an
excel spreadsheet or listing of affected
students. - RE will review the data, contact CDE, complete a
Request for CDE approval and present the
information to Cabinet for review. The
superintendents signature is required on the
form. - RE will submit the data in the format that is
required. RE will notify you and your site
administrator, in writing, when the data has been
submitted, as well as when a response is received
from CDE.
