3Features of 60-GHz Frequency
- High propagation attenuation by oxygen
(16dB/km_at_60GHz) - Miniaturization of circuits and devices
- Line-of-Sight communication basically
- Avoidance of frequency interference using high
antenna directivity - Penetration of wall between rooms and high
attenuation of outside wall - Utilization of reflection by wall and ceiling for
communication
4Applications of 60-GHz Unlicensed Band
- Video Distribution System
- Short-Range Ad-hoc System
- Personal Area Network System (WPAN)
- Local Area Network System (WLAN)
- Vertically-Connected Wireless Link
- Fixed Wireless Access System
- Collusion Avoidance Radar

10Activities on 60-GHz Standard within Other
Standardization Body
- Millimeter-Wave Study Group (SG3c) was organized
within IEEE802.15 on July 2003, and
Millimeter-Wave Task Group (TG3C) was finally
approved on March 2005. - Millimeter-wave Special Interest Group was
organized within MMAC Forum on July 2004.
Multimedia Mobile Access Communication (MMAC)
Forum will propose Japanese standard for wireless
access systems to ARIB (Association of Radio
Industries and Businesses) to make an ARIB-STD.
11Conclusion
- Propose on a new Expert Group on millimeter-wave
communication systems within ASTAP - Survey and discuss of the appropriate framework
on the structure of 60-GHz millimeter-wave
communication systems - Make a contribution to International and Regional
Standardization Organization such as ITU - Develop the World Wide Standards on the framework
of the structure of 60-GHz millimeter-wave
communication systems - We would like to discuss within Wireless Joint
Expert Group - Rapporteur Dr. Hiroyo Ogawa, NICT, Japan
