ISSCC 2002Paper Selection

• The 352 submitted papers are distributed to the
  US, Far East and European committees for rating
• Paper sort meeting was to be held in Washington
  on Sept. 13
• Sept. 11 terrorist strike caused last minute
  adjustments
• Paper sort meeting held by teleconference
• Very successful will continue using conference
  call and email of pdfs of papers for 2003
• The paper selection meeting in October was also
  affected by Sept. 11 events
• Most Far East representatives and 15 of the
  rest of the committee were not allowed to travel
• Used conference call to tie in those unable to
  travel
• Conference calls not as successful for paper
  selection, but allowed us to get through a
  difficult year

ISCCC Registration

• IEDM was 45 down year-to-year
• ISSCC registration provider declared bankruptcy
  in first week of advance registration
• IEEE chosen as registration provider, brought web
  site up in 3 days (great job!)
• ISSCC registration was 39 below 2001 in early
  January
• Major publicity and e-mail campaign in
  mid-January
• Registration recovered rapidly in late January,
  paid registration closed at 21 below 2001
• Expect on-site to bring total registration of
  2,900 3,2000

  365,000
• Audit package submitted

• In early January, registration was running 39
  below 2001
• Would have resulted in 300,000 deficit
• Tight hold placed on costs
• Major campaign initiated to increase registration
• Paid registration at 2,200 expect total of
  2,600 2,900 after on-site, about 22 below 2001
  and very close to 1996-1999 average
• Total registration at 2,406 expect total of
  2,770 3,070 after on-site
• Hotel registration running much above
  expectations
