Tohru Furuyama received the Ph.D. degree from the
University of Tokyo. Dr. Furuyama led several
commodity DRAM, Rambus DRAM and embedded DRAM
developments at the Semiconductor Device
Engineering Laboratory, Toshiba Corp. From 1994
to 1996, he was the 64Mb DRAM design manager for
the Toshiba/IBM/Siemens joint DRAM development
project at Burlington, VT. He was then a senior
manager at the System LSI Engineering Laboratory,
Toshiba Corp, where he was responsible for the
developments of Toshibas original Media
embedded Processor (MeP), MPEG-4 codec LSIs for
mobile applications that utilized the eDRAM
technology he had established as a project
leader, and so on. Since 2002, as a general
manager of the SoC Research Development Center
and subsequently the Center for Semiconductor
Research Development, Toshiba Corp., he has
been supervising wide range of RD activities
advanced CMOS technologies, NAND flash memories,
embedded memories, novel memories, embedded
processors (MeP), digital media SoCs and related
softwares Dr. Furuyama is an IEEE Fellow.

TPC 2009 Vica Chair - Dr. Mototsugu Hamada
Mototsugu Hamada was born in Nara, Japan, in
1968. He received the B.S.,M.S., and Ph.D.
degrees in electronic engineering from the
University of Tokyo, Japan in 1991, 1993, and
1996, respectively. In 1996, he joined Toshiba
Corp. and has been engaged in wireless and
low-power electronic circuits design. From 2002
to 2004, he was a Visiting Scholar at Stanford
University. He is a member of the technical
program committee of ISSCC and A-SSCC. He is a
member of IEEE and JSAP.

Executive Vice
President, System LSI Division Samsung
Electronics, Co., Ltd.
Dr. Woo has led the mobile solutions business of
Samsung Semiconductor's SLSI Division since 2004.
His team develops both chipsets and software for
mobile devices, including application processors,
mobile TV chipsets, wireless communication
chipsets and image sensor chips. Before joining
Samsung, Dr. Woo worked for Texas Instruments as
general manager of a wireless business unit. He
also spent ten years as a research scientist at
ATT/Lucent Bell Laboratories. His area of
expertise includes computer architecture,
parallel processing and VLSI design/synthesis.
He has published more than 50 papers for
journals and international conferences, and has
five U.S. patents. He received the "best paper"
award at an IEEE Design Automation
Conference. Dr. Woo received a BSEE from Seoul
National University, an MSEE from the Korea
Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, and
a Ph.D. in computer science from the University
of Maryland.
