  of web pages that must be sifted through to find
  anything useful.

By mastering these seven simple steps you will

STEP ONEUse a to include words.(Using the
AltaVista Search Engine)

• Search for info about a backgammon tournament
• Since you want to find sites that contain both
  terms, put a before each term.

STEP TWO Use a -to exclude words.

STEP THREEUse the Wildcard

• Never search for the plural of a word,
• Use the wildcard to get both the singular and
  plural forms
• Broaden a search that is too narrow
• Using the wildcard to stand for any form of a
  verb.
• Examples mushrooms vs. mushroom
• surf vs. surf -surface

STEP FOUR Quotes are Key for a Phrase

• Group words to hang together as a phrase
• Use Quotes around them
• AltaVista treats a group of words as a phrase if
  they are found together in its database. It will
  assume you are searching for a phrase even if you
  dont put quotes around them.

use lower case letters.
