Early Life 1853 1880

• He was born in March, 1853, in The Netherlands.
• At 15, he leaves school, never to return.
• In 1873, he moves to London.
• In 1878 he moves to Belgium, and works as a
  preacher.

Young Artist 1880 1885

• In 1880, studies with Dutch artist.
• Brother sends money.
• Paints peasant workers.
• Vincent leaves The Netherlands, never to return.

Paris 1886 - 1887

• Lives in Montmartre with Theo.
• Exposed to Impressionism.
• He meets, Gaughin, Pissaro, and Toulouse-Lautrec.
• He paints many self-portraits.

Arles, France 1888 - 1889

• Lives in France with Gaughin.
• Vincent experiences a psychotic episode.
• He cuts off a part of his ear.
• He is admitted to a psychiatric hospital.

Saint-Remy, France 1889 1890

• Discharged from hospital.
• Admits himself to psychiatric hospital.
• Sets up studio in cell.
• Paints from window and is very prolific.

Auvers Sur-Oise, France 1890

• Under the care of Dr. Gachet.
• Very prolific.
• Shoots himself in wheat field, dies two days
  later.
