2French-Indian/Seven Years' War 1. From 1754 to
1763. Ended with Proclamation of 1763. 2.
Outcome was influenced by a series of raids,
called Pontiac's War, which killed settlers
on the frontiers of Pennsylvania and
Virginia. 3. The Indian Federations chose to
side with either the French, British, or
American armies. 4. Fought on American land
for Native American land.
Drastically increased an already immense
War Debt for England.

3The Proclamation of 1763
1. King George III of Great Britain said that
the Applachian Mountains were the western
boundary for the colonies. 2. No land
grants could be made without the King's
permission. 3. This made many people angry,
especially those who had shares in owning
lands west of the declared boundary.
Other Important Events of 1763 1. Salutory
Neglect ended. This was the British Policy in
the Colonies prior to 1763. 2. The
French-Indian War ended. This had been fought on
American soil, but was between Britain and
France.
4The Stamp Act
1. It was passed by Parliament in 1765. 2.
Taxed almost all printed material in the
Colonies. 3. Stamp Act taxes were never
collected. 4. Protests occurred throughout the
summer of 1765. 5. Effigies were burned and
property was destroyed. 6. Sons of Liberty was
organized.
5The Townshend Acts 1. Series of 1767 laws. 2.
Named for Charles Townshend, British
Chancellor. 3. New taxes on glass, lead, paints,
paper, and tea. 4. In response to violent
protests, Britain sent more troops to the
colonies.
The Sugar Act 1. 1764 Act that put a 3-cent tax
on foreign refined sugar. 2. Increased
taxes on coffee, indigo, and certain
wines. 3. Banned importing of rum and French
wines.
6The Boston "Massacre"
1. Took place on Boston Common in March,
1770. 2. Five colonists were killed. 3. Who do

7The Tea Act 1. In this 1773 Act, a monopoly on
tea sales was given to the East India
Company. What is a monopoly? 2. The Tea Act
lowered the price on East Indian Company
tea so that it was way below the prices of
the other suppliers. 3. The Colonists objected
because they could not choose whom to buy
their tea from.

destroyed, so no one profitted. 2. It was a
political statement, a protest against the

to save the East India Company, a large
British export company, from bankruptcy.
