Where is it?
  • Located in the heart of central Russia, just 1
    hour flight from Moscow and 1 hour from Sochi,
    the capital of 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
  • Thats the perfect place to stay in, if you want
    to visit Ukraine as well. Belgorod is only 80 km
    away from Kharkov, one of the biggest and
    exciting cities in Ukraine.
  • Belgorod was awarded the honorary title City of
    Military Glory by a decree of the President of
    the Russian Federation in April 2007.

What is it famous for?
  • Tourists come from all over the world to
    visit Prokhorovka - the famous war memorial,
    included into the triad of battle fields of
    Russia, those of Kulikovo and Borodino. The tank
    battle took place on July 12, 1943.
  • The village of Kupino contains a unique folklore
    center, where one can observe ancient Russian
    crafts, taste porridge and tea made of 9 herbs.
  • Borisovka factory of studio pottery. The only
    marble iconostasis of rose ashes colour in
    Russia is kept in the Temple of Archangel
    Michael. The icon shop has been open since the
    end of the XVII century.

These are THINGS TO SEE
  • The Borisovka and Belogorie forest reserve
    stretches back to the times of Peter I. Age-old
    forests near the Vorskla river were the
    monarchs reserve according to the order of
    Peter. The Forest on the Vorskla reserve is
    the biggest natural park of Europe, a unique
    museum with more than 15 000 exhibits.
  • The Holy Trinity spelaean monastery is located
    in the village of Kholki. The monastery was
    founded in 1620 by coenobite Gelasius. In the
    XVII century it was called the Nikolsky
    monastery-in-the-caves.
  • The Yamskaya Steppe and Stenki-Izgoria
    conservation areas are the natural biological
    museum. They consist mainly of unspoilt species,
    the majority of plants and animals are included
    in the Red Book of the Russian Federation. This
    is a unique combination of natural complexes
    montane oak forests, chalk pine-trees,
    feather-grass steppes, chalk exposures.
  • The Cathedral of Transfiguration (Preobrazhensky
    Cathedral) was built at the expense of the
    parishioners to replace a ramshackle wooden
    temple in Belgorod in 1813..

What are the people like?
  • People in Belgorod are very friendly, hospitable
    and relaxed. They enjoy sharing with others. The
    fact that theres a lot of international students
    living here makes Belgorodians open minded and
    polite.

They think positive. They love entertainment,

around. The excursion focuses on exploring the
City of Belgorod. The sights include the
monument to Prince Vladimir, Victory park with
the Alley of Heroes, Remembrance park with a
memorial complex in honor of the Belgorodians,
who died during the Nazi occupation in the Great
Patriotic War, the Cathedral of Transfiguration
with the remains of Sanctifier Josaphat, the
chapel-rotunda in honor of the 2000th anniversary
of Nativity.

centre that offers a variety of world known brand
names or fashionable boutiques. There are also a
lot of small shops with unusual and interesting
items.

  • Belgorod is a very safe city to live in. It has
    a minimum crime rate. Still, its better to look
    after your personal belongings and do not leave
    them without your concern.

TIME DIFFERENCE
  • The Russia is divided into 8 time zones. When
    its 12.00 noon in London, its 15.00 in
    Belgorod. Its the same time zone as Moscow,
    Nairobi, Jeddah

TEMPERATURE AND CLIMATE
  • The climate is temperate continental with a
    rather mild winter with snowfalls and thaws and a
    long hot summer. Outdoor sports and swimming are
    open from May till October.

The coldest month is January. The warmest month
is July.
