Vida de Frida (Fridas Life)

• Frida was born unto a German man and his Mesito
  (mixed Indian Castilian blood)
• Her mother hated Fridas tomboy ways Whereas her
  father was delighted to have her in place of the
  son he never had.
• Frida was constantly ill as a child
• She also contracted polio shorting one of her legs

"I paint self-portraits because I am so often
alone, because I am the person I know best."

El Accidente, (The Accident)

• On September 17, 1925, Frida was near the age of
  18, when she was in an auto accident, in which
  she was impaled by a hand rail that broke loose.
• The handrail shattered her pelvis, fractured her
  spinal column, and severely damaged her
  reproductive system
• She was thought to be invalid but taught herself
  to walk again.

"I am not sick. I am broken. But I am happy as
long as I can paint".

el Accidente Verdadero(The Real Accident )

• Frida first met Diego Rivera, when he was
  painting a mural at her high school.
• They were first officially introduced at a
  communist party
• They were married in 1929
• And were consequently divorced in 1940

"I suffered two grave accidents in my life. One
in which a streetcar knocked me down.....The
other accident is Diego."

Traición (Betrayal)

• Diego had many affairs ,
• But so did Frida not always were they with men.
• But at least she wasnt as bad as Diego sleeping
  with Fridas Sister!

"Being the wife of Diego is the most marvelous
thing in the world. I let him play matrimony with
other women. Diego is not anybody's husband and
never will be, but he is a great comrade."

La paz de la muerte,(the peace of death)

• Fridas one and only exhibit in Mexico was in the
  Spring of 1953. (she arrived against doctors
  orders, lying in her bed as she entertained
  guests.)
• Soon after she fell ill again, she had to have
  her leg amputated due to gangrene.
• Diego returned to care for her, till her death on
  July 13th, 1954 (suicide is suspected)

"My painting carries with it the message of
pain.....Painting completed my life.....I believe
that work is the best thing."
