Title: 20052006 KSPSD Data Collection: Selected Reporting and Analysis
12005-2006 KSPSD Data CollectionSelected
Reporting and Analysis
- KBOR IR presented the Regents with reports based
on 2005-2006 KSPSD Data Collections (April-2006
Meeting) - Fall Enrollment
- AY Enrollment
- Developmental Education
- Completions
- Able to take a first look system-wide
- Based on only one years worth of data
- Not appropriate as a basis for policy change /
decision-making
2Measuring Enrollment Fall Census Day versus Fall
Term (AY)
- Fall Census Day is snapshot in time
- Students must be enrolled as of the 20th day of
class - Academic Year collection also includes students
that enrolled after the 20th day - Exercise compared Fall-2004 Enrollment with the
Fall Term of the 2005 AY Enrollment - Measured the impact of including those after
20th day students
- Footnote Fall-2004 was compared to entire AY
for institutions that do not use term enrollment
3Measuring Enrollment Fall Census Day versus Fall
Term (contd)
- Barton Co 56.8
- Labette 35.2
- Neosho 29.7
- Fort Scott 27.5
- KCATS 71.0
4Developmental Education
- Just a baseline we have only 1 years worth of
data to examine - Areas of interest
- Are students succeeding in developmental courses?
- How many cohort students (first-time, full-time,
degree-seeking) take developmental courses? - Do they succeed in these courses?
- Do they retain, transfer or drop out of the
system?
5Developmental Education Attempts
- In 2004-2005, there were 21,874 system-wide
attempts at developmental courses - students can be counted up to three times - once
each term
Percent of Repeat Course Attempts
Footnote Developmental reading has small
enrollment so analysis was not performed
6Developmental Education Success Rates
- Passing a developmental course means the student
received a grade of C or higher
Pass Rate in Developmental Courses
Footnote Developmental reading has small
enrollment so analysis was not performed
7Developmental Education Students
- Overall, only 32 of all Developmental courses
attempted are by Cohort students
Percent of all Developmental Course Attempts
8Cohort Defined
- Cohort is defined as a student who is entering
college for the first time since graduating high
school, is taking a full-time load, and declares
upon entrance that they plan to earn a degree. - This is the group used in the nationally
published graduation rates
9Cohort Overall Retention and Transfer Rates
- Fall 2004 Cohort Tracked to Fall 2005
Footnote In determining Transfer and drop
rates, students were counted once for each
institution at which they were enrolled in
Fall-2005 i.e., a co-enrolled student was
counted twice.
10Cohort Students Taking Developmental Courses
- In 2004-2005, 17.0 of Fall-2004 university
cohort took developmental courses 41.2 of
community college cohort took developmental
courses
11Retention and Transfer Rates for Developmental
Students
Footnote In determining Transfer and drop
rates, students were counted once for each
institution at which they were enrolled in
Fall-2005 i.e., a co-enrolled student was
counted twice.
