• Enormous, low-angle cones
• Lava tubes carry lava many km
• The largest volcanoes on Earth

CINDER CONE

• Steep, conical hill of volcanic fragments that
  accumulate around and downwind from a vent.
• Glassy rock fragments (cinders or scoria) contain
  numerous gas bubbles
• tens to hundreds of meters tall.

Stratovolcano Composite Volcano

• Steep, conical shape
• Highly explosive eruptions (not basalt)
• Many separate vents, cinder cones and domes on
  the volcano's flanks.
