2PREVENTION IN MALAYSIA
- Health prevention in Malaysia is fairly low
despite the many health campaigns and public
awareness programs organised by the Malaysian
Government. - Malaysians are mostly unaware of early symptoms
and signs until it is too late for cure - Curable disease (cancer, heart problems)
- Incurable disease (HIV)
- Undeniably, more lives could be saved if
Malaysians were more aware of the situation
before it is too late.
3PREVENTION IN MALAYSIA
- Malaysians are slowly accepting the use of
technology in daily life. - Malaysian Health Ministry has also established an
official website to promote healthy lifestyles - However, most still prefer traditional methods
- Newspapers
- Health pamphlets
- Articles
- Books
4SURVEY OVERVIEW
- Conducted a survey (online and offline) to a
total of 540 people in Melaka - These consisted of 2 different survey analysis,
one by category and the other according to age
groups - 336 were from 3 survey groups Multimedia
University, Pantai Medical Centre and Manipal
Medical College - The other 204 samples were randomly selected from
various age groups ranging from primary school
students to pensioners. - The aim was to evaluate the level of
Teleprevention awareness in the state

- MEDIUM OF INFORMATION
- Internet as the main medium
- Therefore, Teleprevention holds a large success
rate upon implementation - Internet facilities made available at affordable
rates would allow more people accessibility to
connect to the Internet - Create Teleprevention awareness by organizing
Health Campaigns and programs

9SURVEY ANALYSIS BY CATEGORY
- INTERNET PURPOSE
- Obvious drop in the purpose of Internet usage for
all three survey groups was for Health purposes. - It is surprising how people on the whole are
able to be very concerned about overall health
but yet remain adamant in searching for health
related information - Immediate action has to be taken to create public
awareness on the abundance of health information
mainly for prevention of diseases that are placed
on the Internet

11SURVEY ANALYSIS BY CATEGORY
- TELEPREVENTION AWARENESS
- People working in the medical line such as
doctors and nurses were more aware of
Teleprevention - nature of their working environment
- more likely to be exposed to the concept of
Teleprevention - Others are relatively unaware of Teleprevention
- Lack of exposure and concern about health related
matters

13SURVEY ANALYSIS BY CATEGORY
- AWARE OF DIFFERENCES BETWEEN TELEMEDICINE AND
TELEPREVENTION - Manipal Medical College had the highest number of
survey results proclaiming they understood the
differences between Telemedicine and
Teleprevention. - They also have the least no and not sure
answers in comparison to the other 2 survey
groups. - The other 2 groups had very high uncertainty
rates for this question

16SURVEY ANALYSIS BY AGE GROUP
- AGE GROUP CATEGORIES
- Of the total 204 numbers of surveys conducted on
random people, we have received the most (33)
from the 18-25 age group. - The least lot consisted of people from age 60 and
above with only 20 samples.

18SURVEY ANALYSIS BY AGE GROUP
- MEDIUM OF INFORMATION
- Newspapers and Television play a major role in
relaying information for most age groups. - Therefore, we should use such mediums to promote
Teleprevention and create awareness in the
community. - The Internet is also seen to play a fair amount
in spreading information
19SURVEY ANALYSIS BY AGE GROUP
20SURVEY ANALYSIS BY AGE GROUP
- TELEPREVENTION AWARENESS
- The age group to have the highest understanding
on Teleprevention is the middle age group
(25-40). - None of the samples aged 12-17 showed any
Teleprevention awareness - However, the majority of all groups state that
they do not know of Teleprevention or Internet
prevention
21SURVEY ANALYSIS BY AGE GROUP
22SURVEY ANALYSIS BY AGE GROUP
- INTERNET AS A TELEPREVENTION TOOL
- People below the age of 60 highly agree that
Internet is the best tool for Teleprevention - However, only 40 of the sample age above 60
agree to that statement. - This could be partly due to the lack of exposure
to the Internet on their part and would prefer a
more traditional approach.
23SURVEY ANALYSIS BY AGE GROUP
24SURVEY ANALYSIS BY AGE GROUP
- HEALTH PREVENTION ASSOCIATION
- All groups have associated health prevention with
modern medicine. - Traditional medicine and Religion have fairly
similar results. - This shows that people undeniably rely heavily on
modern medicine to prevent and cure health
problems as compared to the times where
traditional medicine was the preferred choice.
