Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT)

• Provide education and training to meet the
  technological, scientific, medical, and other
  professional requirements of the Air Force
• Offers Undergraduate, Graduate, Doctoral programs
  at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio, and in civilian
  institutions across the country

• Three programs which you can receive full tuition
  assistance
• AFIT at Wright Patterson AFB
• AFIT in civilian universities
• AFIT in civilian industries

Operation Bootstrap

• More readily available means of obtaining
  undergraduate and graduate degrees than AFIT,
  particularly in non technical areas
• Provides permissive TDY for resident study based
  on AFI 36-2306 (Education Services Program)

• Permission to study full time
• Contingent upon the ability of the organization
  to release the individual for the period of
  absence
• The individual is not replaced for the period of
  time
• Students ADSC will be three times the length of
  study

Airmen Education and Commissioning Program (AECP)

• Means by which Airman whove served a minimum of
  one year in the Air Force may gain a commission
• Operated by AFROTC

AECP (Continued)

• Airman with more than 30 college credit hours may
  apply
• Sends them to college for up to 36 months to earn
  a degree
• Sent to OTS upon earning a degree

AECP (Continued)

• Airman who already have degrees and have also
  served 1 year are also eligible
• Must be commission before their 35th Birthday

Tuition Assistance

• Available to active duty service members
• Encourages personnel to pursue voluntary, off
  duty educational opportunities
• Air Force pays 75 of tuition costs at a cap of
  250/semester hour or 166/quarter hour
• Individual pays remaining 25 (fees/books)

New GI Bill Educational Benefits (Montgomery GI
Bill - MGIB)

• 36 months of educational benefits for individuals
  initially entering active duty after 30 Jun 85
• Pay reduction of 1200 (100 per month) for first
  12 months
• Serve three years active duty or two years active
  duty and four years selected reserve

• Honorable Discharge
• Effective 1 Apr 93, post service benefits are
  400/month for 36 months of full time study for a
  maximum of 14,400

• Entitlement is provided if disability was the

  the line of duty-- if it wasnt, the member is
  separated
• May be retired if disability is rated 30 or more
• Retirement pay depends on degree of disability

  members if death is determined to be service

• Monthly payments are a flat rate of 750.00
• For all grades

• VA pays additional amount per amount per month
  for each child of the deceased veteran
• Under specific requirements
• Death pension payable to eligible widows/
  widowers and children of wartime veterans

Death Gratuity Payment

• Lump sum to beneficiaries of a member who dies
  while on active duty
• Payable when death occurs within 120 days after
  discharge if members death was service connected
