- Down on Paper
2Youve gathered all your information...
Youve made a grid for the notes from all the
different sources you found on your topic.
3How can you organize all the information you have
collected for your research project?
4So what is an outline?
- An outline organizes information.
- An outline helps you decide the order in which
you will write the information you want to
include in your research paper. - An outline provides you a pattern to follow when
you write.
5So how do you make an outline?
- Decide how you want to organize your information.
- Explanation?
- Description?
- Chronological order or sequence?
- Compare and Contrast?
- Youll have to decide an organizational strategy
based on your topic and the information you found
on your topic.
6So how do you make an outline?
- Look at your organizing grid.
- Think about how you want to arrange the
information you gathered. - What is my organizational strategy? Decide.
- In what order will I use the information I
gathered? Number the rows in your grid.
7 1 3 6 5 4 2
Christmas and Santa Claus are related.
Hanukkah and gelt are related.
- Did you find information on the same ideas in
more than one source? Put similar information
together. - Number your main ideas.
