Lansings Mayor David Hollister

• Hollister also led the "Keep GM" crusade when
  it was feared General Motors Corp. might end its
  Lansing operations. GM eventually built a new
  assembly plant in Lansing, and is prepared to
  open another assembly plant in 2006 in Delta
  Township.

Michigan Technical Education Centers (M-TEC)

• The state's Michigan Technical Education Centers
  were born in the late 1990s, as the economy
  boomed and state officials hoped to do a better
  job of cashing in on the growth of high-tech
  industries.
• Former Gov. John Engler announced the M-TEC
  program in 1998 and the first 8 of the 18 M-TEC
  sites were chosen in January 1999, said Paul
  Krepps, spokesman for the Michigan Economic
  Development Corporation.

  River Assembly plant.
• "LGR is the latest in a long line of outstanding
  GM facilities all around the world
• LGR is GM's first all-new U.S. assembly plant

  Spring Hill, Tenn. in 1986.
