Memorial Day

• The USS New York is being made with scrap steel
  from the World Trade Center. The ship's motto
  "NEVER FORGET
• Tomorrow we celebrate Memorial Day. Two versions
  of how it started.
• April, 1863 in Columbus, MS a lady decorated the
  graves of her two sons and then decorated Union
  soldier's grave.
• May 5, 1866 in Waterloo, NY which has been
  recognized by Congress as the official birthplace
  of Memorial Day.

• Three things to note about this memorial day.
• There was a "PROVISION FOR THE SACRIFICE".
• A lamb without blemish had to be provided. (Gen
  125)
• Jesus was the provision for our sacrifice. (Heb.
  914, 1 Pet.119)
• There was the "PROMISE OF THE SACRIFICE".
• The death angel would pass over the children of
  Israel. (Ex.1213)
• The blood of Christ keeps us from spiritual death.

• They were to "PROPERLY REMEMBER" the sacrifice.
• They were to remember how God had saved them with
  blood.
• We are to remember how Christ saved us with his
  blood.

• Memorial Day is about remembering people. The
  importance of people started with our CREATOR. -
  Gen. 126-27
• God's emphasis in scripture has always been on
  people because people are His highest creation.
• If he didn't love people then why did Christ die
  on the cross for the sins of people?
• God didn't put us here for us. God put us here
  for others.

• Paul remembered his friend Timothy. (II Tim.
  13-5)
• vs .3 - Remembered him in prayer night and day
• vs. 4 - Remembered his tears
• vs. 5 - Remembered his faith

• ON THIS MEMORIAL DAY WE NEED TO REMEMBER THE
  DECEASED.
• We should remember our veterans because they
  fought so that you and I can enjoy many freedoms.
• There are other veterans who were fellow soldiers
  with us in the battle against Satan and sin. We
  meet here today in this place because of the
  efforts of those who are now deceased.

• ON THIS MEMORIAL DAY WE NEED TO REMEMBER THE
  LIVING.
• The Bible teaches that we are to remember others.
  (Phil. 23-4)
• We are to help others. (Gal 69-10)

• Memorial Day is rightly about people. We need to
  remember people every day of the year.
