What are adaptations?

• An adaptation is a body part or behavior that
  allows an organism to survive in its environment
• Adaptations can help an organism obtain energy,
  hide from predators or prey or reproduce
• Organisms that do not adapt to an environment
  perish

Tigers

• Warm-blooded and can live in either very hot or
  cold climates
• They are striped to help them hide when they
  stalk their prey
• They have powerful teeth and jaws to kill large
  prey

Polar Bear

• White fur to camouflage
• Thick fur to insulate
• Hollow fur to allow light to penetrate
• Black skin to absorb light
• Oil secreted from paws to keep them from freezing

Cactus

• Spikes are thin leaves
• Reduce the amount of water lost
• Protect plant from predators
• Stores water in its fleshy stem
• Deep roots to go far below ground to find water

Sunflower

• Deep tap root allows it to survive short droughts
  by finding deep water
• Tolerant to heat and cold so it can be in many
  environments
• Is able to move the flower part to face the sun
