Globally, WiMAX is gaining traction
Irish customers abandon fixed lines and opt for
WiMAX DUBLIN (WiMAX Day). The Dublin-based
company Irish Broadband recently reported that
it had 40,000 new subscribers in the last four
months. Irish Broadband is an indication that
VoIP will be one of the many killer apps that
will speed the growth of WiMAX.
WiMAX SALES JUMP to 549M LONDON (WiMAX Day)
The market for WiMAX equipment, such as base
stations, modems and other networks fixtures,
grew by 286 in 2006 with total revenue reaching
549.2 million. March 2007
SPRINT ANNOUNCES 3B WIMAX NETWORK Sprint says
it will be offering the service, which will be
faster and cheaper than its existing 3G EVDO
network. August 2006
INTEL/MOTOROLA PUT 900M INTO CLEARWIRE Clearwire

Mobile Industry Shaken as CEO Heralds the WiMAX
Revolution BARCELONA (PRWeb)20 February 2007
WiMAX Day has reported that Vodafone CEO Arun
Sarin delivered a rare glimpse of the future and
warned the mobile industry of new technologies

In Australia, WiMAX cost advantages will be hard
to ignore
  • ACCC analysis of cost
  • In rural areas, WiMAX may provide a lower cost
alternative to wire line access solutions fibre
or copper for voice and data services..WiMAX is
likely to be the most economcally attractive
wireless solution for delivering fixed broadband
access. Analysys Report to ACCC, May 2006
  • Co-operation will kick start national roll out
  • Current trials are proving out the business case
  • AUS Alliance displaying good co-operation
  • Telstras Next G investment is, in part,
defensive, but it is not a panacea
  • WiMAX is a complete bypass of Telstras network
  • WiMAX advantages of efficiency, coverage and
    speed will prevail over 3G
  • Possible scenario
  • Telstra will lobby vigorously and will secure
    access to spectrum
  • WiMAX operators will provide sustainable
    alternatives to the incumbent
  • Long run, Fibre WiMAX will provide key
    technology platforms for future build

Using WiMAX to address demand in outer metro and
growth corridors
  • Fast growing medium enterprises located outside
    metro areas
  • Demand outstripping ADSL capability
  • Need high bandwidth, and attracted to VoIP
    savings
  • Case study A small business came to be the
biggest supplier of organic products in its
    category

A complete private IP solution, delivered
entirely over Allegros wireless network

Using WiMAX and WiFi to build Community Broadband
Networks
  • Every laptop is a potential subscriber to the
    network.
  • Supports data today and voice and data in the
    long run.
  • Kick start economic development.

Using WiMAX for Field Video Surveillance
  • High bandwidth to carry real time images
    (JPEG/MPEG) and large files.
  • Wide coverage to reduce number of access point
    compared to WiFi.
  • Robust Security - WiMAXs encryption makes
    network security easy.
  • Ecosystem of IP Cameras and Surveillance systems
    to complete the system.
