2Business Opportunities Exist We need to work
together globally to insure everybody
participates and benefits
- Opportunities for New Forms of Electronic
Collaboration - Critical Response Collaboration
- Warranty
- Vendor Managed Inventory
- Inventory Consumption
- Global Electronic Invoice
- End-of-Life Vehicle Reportable Materials
Electronic Reporting Standard - Engineering Change
3What is the AMDX initiative?
- A proposal for AIAG and Odette to form a joint
initiative to create a defined set of automotive
industry supply chain transactions expressed in
XML schemas and business process models by
contracting with the Open Applications Group. - Most automotive industry OEMs, suppliers,
solution providers, B2B trade exchanges are
eagerly waiting for someone to develop of a set
of standardized XML documents so they can begin
embracing this new technology and take advantage
of the benefits it promises - This initiative will complement the retail
facing work already underway in the STAR/XML
project - The proposed new auto industry XML standards will
leverage cross-industry XML documents developed
by a recognized XML content standards
organization backed by software industry
4Why do we need AMDX?
- Global automotive industry rapidly moving towards
internet based communication and use of XML
technology in order to streamline operations - XML document standards for the global automotive
industry currently do not exist - Traditional EDI-like processes for developing
this technology are not producing results fast
enough to support the needs of industry - We must ensure that new auto industry XML
document standards address the needs of North
America, Europe and Asia
5Major Players
AMDX Project
6Open Application Group (OAGI)
- The Open Applications Group is a non-profit
consortium of over 90 members focusing on best
practices and process based XML content for
eBusiness and Application Integration. - Mission is to define and encourage the adoption
of a unifying standard for eBusiness and
Application Software interoperability that
reduces customer cost and time to deploy
solutions.

12AMDX Business Case (example Global Invoice)
- Global Invoice will provide benefits for all
faster receipt of receivables, reduced error in
payment management and accounting, tracking and
reporting capability needed to satisfy regulatory
requirements. - To implement Global Invoice, we need agreements
to enable all to participate affordably. - Technical agreements on standard formats and
standard data exchange transport. That enables
vendors to bring inexpensive products to market. - Agreements on business practices that provide
benefit for all, leveraging the technology - To get the agreements, we need an open forum,
facilitation, and effort to develop them. - Same reasoning applies to each of the other
opportunities.
