The Pythagorean Theorem

• Holds ONLY for right triangles.
• Can be used to determine IF a triangle is a right
  triangle and to find the lengths of sides of a
  right triangle.
• A right triangle is a triangle that contains a
  right angle.
• The two sides that form the right angle are
  called LEGS.
• The side opposite the right angle is called the
  HYPOTENUSE. It is the longest side.
